Guidelines for Email and Internet Safety

It is probably not a huge exaggeration to say that everyone is online today.  Most people have a cell phone, computer or internet access.  These technology users are sending texts, emails, using websites, apps and social media...all of which have become part of our everyday life.  

In our schools today, children are no exception. Often times, they are even more likely to be online than their adult family members.  The following is a  guide to help students, parents and educators understand how to use technology safely. 

1.  Never give out personal information such as address, telephone number, parents’ work address/telephone number.

2.   Tell parents right away if something makes me feel uncomfortable.

3.   Never agree to get together with someone I “meet” online.

4.   Never post pictures of myself or others that might be consider to be inappropriate.

5.   Do not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make you feel uncomfortable.

6.   Set up rules  for using the internet and  mobile phone with an adult.

7.   Never give out my passwords to anyone (even my best friends) other than my parents.

8.   Only download or install software that is approved and would not jeopardize your privacy.

9.   Be a good digital citizen and never hurt other people or do something that is against the law.

10. Understand how to have fun and learn while using the Internet, computers and other technology devices.
